Jane Fredericks has been exploring the art of collage for the past ten years alongside other work and studies that have touched on the worlds of theatre, interiors, jewellery, film and music.
Her artwork is collated from various ephemera sources such as old postcards, information books, contemporary and vintage magazines and photographs. Images are set against a backdrop of domesticity and grand landscape creating an ambiguity that challenges us to question our view of the world around us. The familiar is transformed into the surreal, the sublime into the unnerving.
Inspired by early Dadaists such as Hannah Hoch, early avant garde graphics and photomontage, Jane uses the aesthetics of collage in a playful and at times ironic way to address social, domestic, or personal themes.
