Lambeth Country Show - 18/19 July 2015

We're busy preparing for this year's Lambeth Country Show - taking place in one of London's finest parks: Brockwell Park, SE24

This fantastic event is where I started selling Artwork for the first time - a local event that's been going for over 30 years and which combines all the great urban culture of Brixton side by side with a traditional country show. It's a must-visit event and we always take part - showing a specially curated selection of Art prints, cards and gift items from illustrators and artists both local to us and further afield.

We have 3 fantastic new prints by Anna Marrow that will be shown with a swimming theme, which already complements the earlier Lido series of prints. Now available to buy online as editions of 30, each print is currently available at an introductory price of only £70 and then they will increase to £95

Each print is hand printed with 4 different colours by Anna Marrow at Spike Island in Bristol. Anna's skill as a printer is extremely accomplished and her work is gaining great popularity with her original paintings now being collected by keen buyers.

See all of the prints here and if you're unable to visit the show, we are offering free postage during the whole of July.

We will have a range of hand printed greetings cards, limited edition prints, printed bags and tea towels. Come and see us in the Village Green area

The Lido Series by Anna Marrow

We are really pleased with this new series of prints by Anna Marrow which we have shown recently during the Dulwich Festival.

The Lido Series would undoubtedly raise anyone's spirits. They capture beautifully what it means to be young, fit and healthy in the heat of summer, with a faintly nostalgic feel of the glamour of the heyday of the Lido; you can almost feel the warmth of the midsummer sun on your back and hear the laughter that filled those days. This is the magic of Anna’s work; she transports you back to those beautiful bright afternoons and fills you with some of that confidence that comes with youth.

In the series we have 'Meanwhile at the Lido' a large piece at 100 cm wide by 70 cm - a perfect statement piece for the living room. Diving Board is a truly beautiful print which looks stunning in a white box frame and is a good size at A1 (56 x 76 cm).  A smaller scale print at 25 x 25 cm Somersault depicts a lively scene of fun and games at the Lido.

L'astronaute by Delphine Lebourgeois

In ‘L’astronaute we see a tiny figure landing on a new-found botanical planet, with exotic almost other-worldly birds and insects either mid-flight or perched seemingly randomly throughout.  There is an unusual connection between the two human-like figures at the top of the image, the smaller explorer and the larger winged Angel, a traditionally spiritual or religious symbol; she averts her eyes from her admirer perhaps suggesting she is uninterested or simply modest whilst he reaches up to her, is he pleading? Asking for her hand? It’s a moment in time that Delphine has captured to encourage us to question this relationship.

Delphine is perhaps asking us to look at what these figures represent, the angel is of another time, traditional, it could be seen that she is representing religion or the archaic beliefs of times past and the astronaut is the future, taking risks, acting on scientific judgement and bravery when exploring this new-found land. Are the two figures compatible? Can they forge a relationship in this beautiful fantastical land that Delphine has created?

This work, besides being visually beautiful and decorative with its deep aqua coloured floral bouquet and bright coral bird feathers, is also beautiful in its symbolism. For I, as a viewer, can see Delphine has visualised a fantasy where the traditional and the modern can unite and create something beautiful. I can see this story as a second instalment in this series by Delphine and could envisage a third piece which explores the beauty of an amalgamation or love child which is borne from the union of this classical Angel and the futuristic Astronaut.  Whatever they create it is sure to be aesthetically and symbolically beautiful.

NEW ARTIST : LIDIA DE PEDRO

“I see my work as a combination of things I like. I’ve noticed small decisions that are made very quickly and almost unconsciously influence the outcome of the final piece.”Lidia de Pedro

Lidia De Pedro is originally from Madrid and now mostly based in the UK when she is not travelling the world exhibiting and fulfilling residencies. Lidia's work is flamboyant and very colourful and her output is largely one-off mixed media originals and hand finished limited edition screenprints. Her distinctive style tells intricate and involved narratives that are depicted using a number of techniques and materials. The stories she tells are both personal and a commentary on current affairs and events.

We are showing a series of paintings by Lidia de Pedro at the forthcoming Affordable Art Fair . Come and visit us at Stand F2

NEW ARTIST: GILL SMITH

We are pleased to be representing at the forthcoming Affordable Art Fair the talented Artist and Printmaker Gill Smith.

Gill Smith recently graduated from the MA Printmaking at Camberwell College of Arts. Her work explores her fascination with visual perception - how the eye and the brain can work together either in harmony or tension.

Much of Gill's current work questions this relationship, and our understanding of reality and illusion. Her practice combines traditional printmaking techniques of intaglio and screenprinting with digital and laser technology.

Gill takes inspiration from the strong, bold graphics of the Art Deco period and the visual illusions of Op Art, creating 2D and 3D works that explore light, texture and movement - things that exist but without a determined form.

The current works by Gill Smith that we are showing are presented in a variety of mediums, most notably the striking prints on Aluminium known as Dibond prints, all of which are of low edition sizes and are ready to hang with no additional framing.

NEW ARTIST: CLAIRE COLES

We are pleased to be representing the beautiful work of Claire Coles at the forthcoming Affordable Art Fair.

Claire Coles' work starts with drawing with thread, using the sewing machine as others would use a pen or a pencil, in a loose and fluid way. Combining collage with freehand embroidery creates a whimsical and ethereal quality.

Claire's work is inspired by old textiles and wallpapers, she builds up her colour palette working with neutral tones and gradually injecting bold and bright colours. Capturing a reminiscence of the past but with an injection of freshness.

Much of Claire's work is bespoke, often commissioned as a collaboration with a luxury brand or interior designer. We are pleased to be presenting an exclusive print collection of Claire's work, adapted from original drawings and adapted so as not to be direct copies of original pieces. We are showing these prints alongside original pieces.

We are acting as Agents for future commissions and collaborations and are able to discuss bespoke pieces for domestic and commercial interiors.
